Baseball: Junior Chargers drop Hawks
May 2, 2008 at 11:36 amTheir offense was potent and their defense was stingy as the Midland Dow junior varsity baseball team was able to take both games of the doubleheader Thursday to sweep visiting Heritage 12-3 and 10-4.
“They are a couple huge wins for us,” said Dow coach Ben Cronkright. “We haven’t been able to sweep heritage at the JV level in awhile.”
Ryan Maddox pitched in the opener and went the distance allowing only one earned run while striking out five to pick up the win.
Logan pray and Cory Brzak lead Dow offensivively finishing 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Ryan Stone pitched a complete game for the Chargers in the nightcap and struck out three while allowing only two earned runs.
Praay kept it up in the nightcap with a triple to drive in two more runs, while Alex Banks scored two runs going 2-for-2.
“This is a big confidence boost for our kids,” Cronkright said. “We still have a lot to work on, however, lately what is most impressive is we are learning how to compete, which is something that was missing earlier this year.”
The Chargers record improves to 6-4 in league play and 10-4 overall. They return to action Monday when they travel to Arthur Hill to take on the Lumberjacks. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
