Baseball: Varsity Chargers trample Knights
April 22, 2008 at 12:38 pmThe Midland Dow varsity baseball team couldn’t be stopped Monday, outscoring visiting Flint Southwestern a combined 31-0 to sweep the double header at Tom Roberts Field.
“We came out and took care of business,” said Dow coach Kip Harris.
Nate Richard (1-0) took to the hill in the opener and was very sharp, striking out eight while allowing only one hit in three innings.
Offensively, he was accompanied by Michael Allen and Sean Hartman in going 3-for-3 to mercy the Knights 15-0 in three innings.
Andy Best started the nightcap and went two innings allowing no hits, while walking one and striking out three. Adam Mantle (2-0) pitched the third to record the win in the 16-0 route.
Richard kept it up in the second game going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Andrew Seer finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, as well.
“We threw strikes, played good defense and didn’t give away many at bats,” Harris said.
The sweep improves Dow’s record to 7-2-1 overall and 5-1 in league play. They return to action Thursday when they travel to Mount Pleasant to take on the Oilers. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
