Share this storyThe Midland High junior varsity girl’s basketball team made a focused effort on cutting down costly turnovers and it worked in their favor Friday, as the Chemics were able to play mistake-free basketball and come away with a 37-30 win over visiting Flint Northern at Midland High School.
“We’ve been in a bit of a slump lately,” said Midland coach Larry Kastl. “This was a big win for us.”
Midland started the game strongly. Crisp, timely passes created scoring opportunities that the Chemics turned into points and an early lead.
“Our emphasis for this game was cut down on our turnovers,” Kastl said. “We wanted to take care of the ball and make every possession count.”
Midland’s offense did just that, led by Chelsea Dull, who finished with 15 points.
“Chelsea Dull did a fine job,” Kastl said. “Our wings did a nice job of getting her the ball and she converted their passes into easy buckets.”
The Vikings threatened in the fourth quarter, but the Chemics were able to fight off the surge and hold on for the win.
Midland’s record improves to 5-7 on the season. They return to action Thursday when they travel to Bay City Western to take on the Warriors. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
