The Great Lakes Loons got plenty of offense from Josh Bell, but the Swing of the Quad Cities got plenty of offense from everyone else as they pounded out 20 hits in beating the Loons 13-7 Tuesday.

The 20 hits were the most ever allowed by the Loons pitching staff as Antone Dejesus and Christian Reyes each recorded four hits. Reyes also added a go-ahead home run in the fifth, his ninth homer of the season.

Loons’ third baseman Josh Bell had a career day at the plate going 4-for-5 with two home runs in his first two at bats while driving in four runs in the ballgame. Bell connected off of Swing starter Elvis Hernandez in the first inning for a three-run home run to put the Loons on top 3-0. In his next at bat, Bell crushed a long home run to center, well over the 400’ mark on the outfield wall to tie the game at four.

James Adkins started for the Loons and only pitched one inning while being acclimated to professional baseball, as Tuesday marked his second career professional performance. The southpaw was relieved by Paul Coleman and Chris Malone, who each gave up six runs apiece in their appearances. Coleman picked up the loss, dropping his record to 1-1.

Mike Schellinger (3-3) worked 2.2 scoreless innings for the Swing striking out the first five Loons he faced in picking up his third win of the season.

The series continues Wednesday night when ace Clayton Kershaw takes the mound. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

  • In news made before the ballgame, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that Loons first baseman Eduardo Perez was placed on the suspended list. The Midland Daily News is reporting that Perez was suspended for not following organizational policy. Utility man Parker Brooks was added to the active roster for the first time this season to take his place.
