Bees sting Loons in ninth
July 16, 2007 at 2:11 pmA quality start from Josh Wall wasn’t enough on Sunday afternoon as the Great Lakes Loons fell to the Burlington Bees by a score of 7-5.
The Bees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning highlighted by a Jase Turner RBI-single and a Felix Peralta sacrifice fly. The score would remain the same until the fifth when the Loons took the lead thanks to a three-run outburst highlighted by Matt Berezay’s RBI-single and Tommy Giles’ RBI-triple to make it 3-2.
In the seventh, the Bees would get three runs of their own to make it 5-3 in favor of Burlington, but the Loons would even the score with single runs in the seventh and eighth thanks to James Peterson’s RBI-double and a successful double steal to score Juan Rivera.
But in the ninth, Loons reliever David Pfeiffer struggled while allowing Matt Morizio to knock in the go-ahead run with an RBI-single to break the 5-5 tie and give the Bees the lead.
Josh Wall started for the Loons and allowed only two runs in six quality innings of work before being relieved by Thomas Melgarejo. Pfeiffer and Miguel Ramirez pitched a combined three innings while Pfeiffer got the loss. His record dropped to 2-2.
Aaron Hartsock (6-2) worked 1.2 scoreless innings for the Bees in picking up his sixth win of the season.
