The Great Lakes Loons swept both games of a doubleheader against the West Michigan Whitecaps Monday night, winning game one 5-4 before taking game two 3-0.

With the score knotted at 4-4 in game one, Tommy Giles – playing in his first game as a Loon – delivered an RBI single to score Josh Bell with the go-ahead run.

Josh Wall (3-7) recorded the win, throwing six innings. Miguel Ramirez pitched a perfect seventh for his seventh save.

Offensively, Giles went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while James Peterson had four hits in four at-bats. Matt Berezay had two doubles.

In game two, Peterson’s bases-loaded single in the sixth highlighted a three-run frame that broke a 0-0 tie. David Pfeiffer made his Loons’ debut with five shutout innings in his first start of the season, and Michael Gardner pitched the final two to record his first save of the season.

The Loons’ record is now 30-34 and is their best record since May 3.

The Loons and Whitecaps conclude their series Tuesday night in Comstock Park, MI.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
